Programmability has been a critical feature of advanced calculators for a long time, and I’m sad to see that it’s lacking here. While you can define custom functions, it’s kind of a bummer how limited this is - you can't automate advanced calculations as there's no way to implement loops, or call other functions (even non-recursively). For instance, it’s great that there's an RPN mode, but it's dissapointing that it doesn't have an algebraic input mode. There aren’t options for a lot of things that I think a great calculator should be able to do. I find that there isn't much advanced functionality, and the customization options are mostly aesthetic and UI differences. It doesn't really have any more advanced features, and that kind of makes some of PCalc's cooler features like layout editing a bit disappointing as there's only so much you can do with a simple calculator to begin with. That's fine if that's what you want it to be, and it will do a good job at that with some extra delightful little features like built in unit conversions and constants. At its core PCalc is a very basic calculator. Ultimately, however, I am disappointed with the calculator! Many reviews claim that this is a calculator that can "do everything" and "be whatever you want it to be", and I think that's kind of untrue. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's cool that it has an RPN mode with an infinite stack, it's cool that you can define some custom functions, and it's very cool that it has a layout editor so you can even make the layout whatever you want. PCalc is a decent calculator app with some, admittedly, pretty good customization.
